Decided to venture out with the Brilliant Beginnings Preschool. F is for fire station and field trip. We had a great time. I think I was more excited than the kids. I've never been inside a fire station before (only an ambulance). Pretty impressive. Check out the picture.

It's been a long winter. . . warm spring weather can't come soon enough! I've been a little "under the weather" for a few months (long story), but things are looking up now. Can't wait to get back on my mountain bike. For now I have to settle for long walks. We had a great weekend with our family. The grandkids are getting so big. We really need a new grandbaby soon. Happy, happy birthday Ellie! Where did all the time go? I still remember so vividly the day you were born. I thought for sure they had made a mistake when they pointed you out in the nursery at the hospital. You had such dark curly hair and a cute swollen face! It was so fun to hold you and love you and think about all the things we would do together. And now you are six, in school and on your way to becoming a young lady. I hope you have a wonderful birthday. Papa and I love you so much.

What the Heck in the World?

What are the chances of serving on a jury? For me it was 1 in 50. In fact my juror number was 1. I received a letter stating "Greetings from the Court. You are hereby summoned to appear for jury selection on. . . ." Great, now what? All I could think of was how to get out of it. What could I say that would excuse me from serving? When I got to the courthouse, along with 49 other prospective jurors, I thought, "what the heck, this could be fun." I was given a number and handed a questionnaire to fill out and then we were treated to a video about doing our civic duty and what it meant to serve on a jury. I was planning my afternoon while the lawyers and the judge were reviewing the questionnaires, thinking there is no way I will be selected! And then my name and number were called and I was asked to stand up and state my name. Yikes!

The trial was long, very emotional, interesting and eye-opening. It was a great experience and I actually learned a lot about the judicial process. After the trial was over and the verdict was read, the judge took a few minutes to talk to us and encouraged us to share with friends and family our experiences and anything we wanted to about the trial. And yes, I would probably like to do it again.

Whew! It's been a busy Sunday. We had all the kids and grandkids over for dinner today. Fred fired up the BGE (Big Green Egg) and cooked us up some most delicious steaks. Of course since the weather was not cooperating, the grandkids had to stay inside. It was definitely a full house today! We will all be glad when the weather is warm and we can hang outside. As chaotic as it was, I wouldn't want it any other way. I love them all!

My Granddaughter, Ellie, has quite an imagination. She decided that she wanted to set up a doctors office and Jonas and I were to be the patients. She took my blood pressure, handed me a paper cup and told me she needed to check a "sample" as that was the way to see if I was healthy. She checked my throat, ears and for some reason, my feet. Of course my feet were in very bad condition and needed to be worked on. So she prescribed a special lotion and a foot massage. When Jonas heard the word lotion, he came running. He wanted to get in on the action! By the way, I got a clean bill of health and my feet feel fabulous!

My plans for today have been seriously interrupted due to the current wet, fluffy stuff falling from the sky. I'm not in the mood to put on my winter gear and venture out. So here I sit, staring out the window waiting for the dryer to beep so I can put the next load of laundry in.

As I was staring out the window I noticed my lawn chair in the middle of the lawn covered with snow. It was only a few days ago that I was sitting in that same chair enjoying the warm sun, reading my book and doing some heavy relaxing! I know, I know, we need the water and I am very thankful for the water. Okay, I'm through grumbling. It will be sunny again in a few days.

Fred surprised me with a sweet birthday present --- tickets to see the play "Wicked." What an amazing production. The singing, costumes, scenery and everything else were just fabulous. We got to spend the entire day together just hanging out, eating, sleeping, and eating some more! Can't wait to do it again. . . I know, the pictures stink but they were drive-by shots.

It's Big Green Egg Season

We decided it was time to fire up the BGE (Big Green Egg) and try some wood roasted pizza. Molly and Cooper happened to be in town so they got to join in the fun. Robin made the most delicious pizza dough and sauce. She told me that it is her goal to learn to throw the pizza dough! A good time was had by all. Cooking pizza on the BGE is becoming one of our favorites!

Apparently Ellie wants to be on Grammy and Papa's payroll! She was helping Morgan clean my house today. She is quite worried that her mom and dad will not have enough money to buy her clothes for school this fall. She told her mom that Grammy and Papa would probably have a few dollars she could earn (wouldn't it be nice if it really only cost a few dollars). So today she did the dishes and helped keep Jonas occupied while Morgan worked. We could hear her in the kitchen singing while she washed the dishes and telling Jonas how to clean the dishes and put them away. Priceless! Ellie, you are hired. . . .

I woke up this morning to a cute curly headed, big bright eyed toddler. Stefan had to go to the dentist so Oliver came for a visit. What a whirlwind! He is one busy, busy boy. Sunday night at Papa and Gram's. It is always an experience. It's the first time we have all been together for a few months, but now we are back to our regular schedule! Nick sat down to play a few tunes with Jonas and Owen. Apparently Owen plays regularly with his dad Nick at home and knows exactly how it's done, but tonight Jonas joined in the fun. Looks like the piano gene may carry on to the next generation afterall (I can only hope)! The other picture is of Jonas, Oliver and Owen playing with the new magical garbage can. Who knew that a garbage can could be so mysterious and fun? The garbage can is an automatic one that opens at the wave of a finger or hand. Both Jonas and Owen have figured out how to open and close it and where the on/off button is. And I thought I was being so sneaky turning it off. They were showing Oliver how to work it! Ellie was feeling left out of the pictures so she did a few twirls for me. Max was busy downstairs playing with Papa and the lego boat. (so I added his picture from an earlier time). We sure love these kids. They make us smile.

We decided to build a fire Sunday evening. It was so nice and warm and cozy that we decided to hang out in the family room. Nick and Hillary haven't been over for a while due to illness and our house being in a remodel mess and it was fun to hang out with them. I have been admiring the new wood floors for a while now but decided it was time to put the furniture back in the room. So with the help of my very strong, big muscled boys, the piano and buffet were moved in along with the new couch and chairs. I fully intended on posting something to wish everyone a Merry Christmas but it didn't happen! So Merry Christmas everyone and I hope that you all have a very wonderful New Year!

Yesterday was the first day I really felt like eating anything since I've been sick so things are looking up.

Our remodel continues. We have two of the four rooms done now and it will be very soon that the other rooms will be done as well. The hardwood flooring will be installed next week. Yeah! I can't wait to see how it all turns out. The wood was delivered this morning so it can aclimate to our house. And that's about all that's going on. . . . Here are a few pictures from Christmas and the various stages of the rooms being worked on - New carpet, new tile, etc.

Life has been so crazy that I haven't posted anything for awhile. We are still in the middle of remodeling but getting closer every day. Carpet will be installed on Thursday in the great room and hopefully in the master bedroom. Ryan has been working hard to get the room completed. He tested out the mirrored closet doors last night. They are pretty sweet. I only have a few more things to paint and I told Fred last night that I will never paint again, never ever so he better just get used to the color we have now! He said I would probably change my mind in a few years. . . .

We have been terribly ill with the stomach flu this last week as has my entire family. Not a fun thing to have. It really derailed everyone and everything. I haven't even thought about Christmas yet. Maybe this weekend I will be able to put up my Christmas tree! It just hasn't seemed like December yet but now that the snow is falling, it feels a little more like Christmas is coming. Things can only get better, right?

It was a beautiful, sunny, cold day and the kids were pretty excited to run and play in the leaves (not so much excitement for the pictures) but eventually they did cooperate! The master bedroom is starting to look better and better! Ryan completed the mudding and taping yesterday. I am going to order carpet this week and the closet doors should be here in a week. I am beginning to believe it may be done by Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter.

It was definitely some time for fun (if you call raking leaves fun!) The kids and their papa sure had a good time. I just watched out the window from my warm house. We've had such a crazy month. It's hard to believe that Fred's father is been gone for four weeks, that Halloween has come and gone and that Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. That means Christmas is just around the corner. I think it's time to slow down and enjoy the ride for a while . . . . .

Our lives have been a little crazy around here. We've been very, very busy with Fred's father passing away. Family has been staying with us and we have been doing a lot of housecleaning at Grandpa Bandley's home. There is an amazing amount of "stuff" that has to be looked through and either filed away, given away or thrown away! It has been wonderful to have everyone just hanging out together. The brothers and their sister got to do some serious bonding. Someone dying will do that to a family and I mean that in a good way.

Anyway, back to the klutz story. As everyone had their boxes to sort through, it was noted that it would be handy to have a paper shredder close by. Ours was downstairs so I thought I would be helpful and bring it upstairs. It wasn't that the shredder was super heavy, more like ackward and I guess a little top heavy. I was hefting it up the stairs and had made it all the way to the top when my super gription (that's a cross between grippy and traction) shoes caught the carpet on the top stair causing me to fling forward (with the help of the shredder) and land on both knees. It hurt pretty bad, but my pride got in the way and I jumped up stating I was okay. I told Karalue that we better not tell Fred about the accident as he claims I'm always having accidents. I looked down at my leg as it felt like water was running down it, only to realize that it was not water but a lot of blood. It was a very deep, jagged cut that required about 20 stitches. We had to tell Fred afterall. Karalue was kind enough to take me to the hospital. A tetanus shot and about an hour later, I was home and and back to shredding. Go ahead. . . . call me a klutz!

P.S. The cut doesn't look all that bad but it was pretty deep requiring stitches underneath as well as on top.

In Loving Memory . . .

My father-in-law, Louis Bandley passed away on Friday evening, October 10, 2008. He was 89 years of age. He was a great man and will be missed terribly. It is a blessing for him to be able to be taken home and what a great reunion I'm sure he's having. We love you Dad!

After talking over plans and ideas for months we decided to forge ahead with the bedroom remodel. And as the first hole was made in the wall, I thought, "oh boy, here we go. This could take a really long time." But Ryan assured me he wanted to be done with the project in six weeks or so. It's the "or so" part that has me worrried. Fred assures me that it isn't a very big project and all will be fine. Seems I've heard those words before somewhere back in time. . . . Can't turn back now. Ryan is giving directions from atop the ladder!

Fencing Update and the BGE

It looks like we just might get the fence done after all. In fact, it may be done by the end of next week. We can only hope. It's been hard not having the privacy I'm used to in the back yard. I don't like that the neighbors can see into my windows. Tall fences definitely make good neighbors. So after the fence is finished, it will be time to put the yard back in order which includes sod and the planting of a few more trees. I can hardly wait.

Now for the Big Green Egg (BGE) update: We have successfully grilled hamburgers and roasted chicken. Both turned out very excellent. In fact, Carl and Fred are right now in the process of readying the chickens for Sunday dinner. Seems that the BGE is turning into a great investment!

It was another great afternoon at Gram's. I gave Max and Ellie ice cream cones and sent them outside to eat. I peeked out the window to check on them and had to smile. They were totally oblivious to everything but the ice cream, just sitting there chilling out. These two kids really

Big Green Egg

Yes folks, it has arrived. The Big Green Egg. What is a Big Green Egg you ask? Only the world's best smoker and grill. We figured the assembly of the egg couldn't be too difficult so we loaded all the boxes in the car and drove home. I'm thinking that the $60 fee for assembly would have definitely be worth it. With the help of Ryan, Kent, Nick, Jonas and Owen, the egg was finally assembled. It now sits in the living room waiting to be put into it's nest and moved to the patio! It only weighs about 275 pounds. We are very excited to get started. . . can't decide what to cook first. The pictures just don't do the egg justice but here they are anyway. We bought the extra large egg and it doesn't really look as much like an egg as the small ones. I'm not sure what it looks like??

The Decision has been made

Two years ago when we bought our home we knew that at some point a new fence would have to be put up. The current fence is cedar and has been in place for some 30 plus years (so we have been told). I don't think it was ever treated or painted so as you can imagine, falling apart. So after looking at various fence materials and much debate, we decided to go ahead to do a new fence. We are in the process of getting ready for the new fence which means clearing out all the bushes, trees, etc. around the fence line. Much bigger project than I had anticipated! Nick, Stefan, Jeremiah and Max have all been a big help. Nick and Max spent Saturday helping Fred (with the help of the awesome cruiser) pull out trees and narly grape vines. It was quite a sight. The small picture on the bottom is a before one. So here are some of the pictures - before and after . . .

I have to admit

It's true, I have to admit that I am a big fan of the Twilight series. I just finished Breaking Dawn (in record time I might add) and I really, really liked it. In fact, I couldn't put it down. It was not at all what I expected. I'm not sure what I expected actually, but definitely worth reading. I'm curious to see what other people have to say about the book. Anyone out there read it???

It was nice to take a break from reality for a minute, but now I guess it's time to get back to cleaning, sorting, and packing boxes. We are getting a little closer to our bedroom remodel. Maybe it will happen sometime before January! We can only hope, right?

The Time Has Come

I guess I can no longer put it off. It's time to go through the boxes and boxes and boxes of "stuff" that have been sitting in the office since we moved. I kept thinking that if I ignored them long enough, they might go away. . . And then after I am done with the office, it's time to move on to the boxes in the shed. It's just a little too overwhelming so I sit here and stare at them wondering where to start! Isn't there some law that if you haven't used or looked at your stuff for one year, it can go in the trash? I tried to talk Morgan into at least keeping me company but she didn't want to have anything to do with it (and neither did Ellie)! So, maybe I'll start tomorrow. . . . .

Home Sweet Home?

We survived the trip!! And I'm already wanting to go on another trip. We had a wonderful time, saw a lot of cool things, visited some very special places and had a great time bonding! Neither Fred nor I are ready to get back into "reality." I started to unpack today, do laundry, pay bills and try to catch up with the kids. It was really great to see them and to hold my sweet babies. They seemed to remember us but were a little cautious. Ellie is excited to have us home and is already making plans for me next week. A picture show should be forthcoming -- We'll see if I can actually get around to it!! Stay tuned. It's good to be home!

A big happy birthday wish to my best friend and huband Fred! We are in Denver, Colorado today and will be going to a Rockies baseball game tonight to celebrate. We are on the final days of our trip. I'm a little sad to leave it all behind but very exited to see my family, especially my grandkids. I'm starting to forget what they look like!! I have so many pictures that I can't decide which ones to post so I'll have to do a slide show when I get home. We have had a most fabulous trip. It is something I would definitely recommend. The only stress we have had is where to stay and what to eat. And sometimes finding a filling station with a clean restroom! It's hard to think about coming home and facing "real life" again. We are already in the process of planning our next trip. . . . . see ya'll very soon.

Missouri for the night!

We are now in a place called Poplar Bluff, Missouri (about 165 miles south of St. Louis) for the night. We just didn't want to drive in the dark to St. Louis! Of course the hotel offers free internet but in our room it is not working so I am sitting in the lobby typing this. We left New Orleans on Wednesday morning and traveled to Memphis, Tennessee. We went to Graceland. What a joke. We paid to park and walked around and saw that it was nothing too great to behold and left laughing our butts off. We did, however, take a few pictures for the scrapbook! We then went to a really cool place called Mud Island on the Mississippi River. There was a most fabulous museum and displays. One Week Down

I can't believe it has been one week today. This trip is going way too fast. We finally decided to pay for the internet service since we need to keep updated on the storms and flooding. If it gets much worse we will likely have to re-route. I went out on a walk about today with two other girls whose husbands are at the conference. We did way too much walking, got way overheated and I'm now resting until Fred gets back from meetings! I couldn't find one thing to buy. Imagine that - I even have money. We had a good time sampling all the local food, treats and of course I had to have a pralines and cream ice cream cone. The Mississippi River is quite something to behold. We survived the swamp

We drove to Slidell today for the long awaited swamp tour. I have to say it was a blast. I'm not sure who had more fun - me or Fred! Of course if rained so hard we had to wrap up in plastic tarps. I was at the front of the boat so I was soaked clear to the bone. I still wasn't dry by the time we arrived in New Orleans several hours later. On the way, we got caught in an amazing downpour on the freeway. It was raining so hard we couldn't see and there were cars off to the side of the road all along the way. Fred was loving it. I was pretty scared. Anyway, we are staying in downtown New Orleans and we have to pay for internet which is way too much money so this will be the last blog until we are back to the Hampton Inn's. Hopefully in a few days I will post some of the pictures - maybe even the alligators. Tomorrow we will be attending the New Orleans 1st branch for church. It should be good.

I didn't get a chance to blog last night. We were having so much fun at Shelly and John's. We went San Antonio Temple last night. It was such an awesome experience. I have never seen such a beautiful temple. It is on top of a hill overlooking the city. There were only a few people in attendance as it is a smaller temple. What a great experience. We also went to the Johnson Space Center in Houston today. Fabulous!! I will post all the pictures when I get a spare moment! We are in Lake Charles, Louisiana for the night and on our way to New Orleans in the morning. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Day 3

Tuesday:

The hotel we stayed in last night did not have internet service so I was not able to post any pictures or an update. Hopefully the pictures will work now! Tuesday we drove to Carlsbad, New Mexico and visited the the Carlsbad Caverns. What an amazing place. I had no idea what to expect and believe me I was pleasantly surprised. It's really hard to put into words. Hopefully the pictures will do justice. Oops, I almost forgot . . . we stopped at the Olde Town in Albuquerque and the rattlesnake museum. Yeehaw. It was pretty cool. I think the snakes have been the highlight of Fred's trip so far.

Wednesday:

We arrived safely in San Antonio, Texas about 6:00 p.m. Shelly had prepared a wonderful "Texan" meal of beef brisket, potatoes, creamed corn, fruit, salad, strawberry shortcake, etc. She loves to cook and her family appreciates it as well!! We have been sitting here catching up on life. Tomorrow will be going to the San Antonio Temple to do some family names. We are way excited. I will keep you posted. . . . Hillary, Alyse and Morgan - give my babies a hug and kiss please!!

After getting about three hours (maybe) of sleep Sunday night, we got up Monday morning and packed the car. We actually left the drive-way at 5:03 a.m. Right on schedule. It's a miracle that Fred got me out of bed and out the door. We drove non-stop to Moab and then on to four corners. We thought it would be fun to be in four states at once. The monument was the funniest little stop with all kinds of wares being sold from fry bread to Indian jewelry. Of course I had to get a magnet. Then it was off to Albuquerque, New Mexico. We arrived at about 3:30 p.m. Below are some of the pictures. We are going to stop at the rattlesnake museum in the morning and then on to Carlsbad Caverns (where the temp is forecast to e 110 degrees) Yikes!

Well, it looks like that's the only picture. The other images won't load and Fred is asleep so I don't want to bug him! I'll try again tomorrow. . . .

So what exactly do you pack for a three week trip? Lots and lots of stuff - snacks, water, music, movies, all kinds of electronic gadgets, maps, church clothes, meeting clothes, play clothes, etc., etc., etc. The nice thing is that we don't have to worry about how much we take. It's not like we are flying and have to check our bags! Since neither one of us has three weeks worth of clothes, we will be doing laundry somewhere along the way. What an adventure. . . Should be tons of fun. The picture is the start of my packing pile!

The trip countdown has started . . .

In exactly 13 days we will be embarking on a long awaited journey. We will be celebrating 31 years of marriage in August so this will be part of our celebration. Last year the big plan was for us to go to Hawaii on our 30th anniversary. Since life seems to throw us all kinds of curves, it didn't happen. So we decided to do something completely different this year. We are taking a road trip (yes, in the van). First stop is Albuquerque, New Mexico, last stop Denver, Colorado, with many states and miles in between. We have never been to see any of the church history sites in Nauvoo and I'm pretty excited about it. Fred is looking forward to the snakes and alligators in Louisiana. Actually I'm pretty exicted to see that kind of stuff too! We have the intinerary almost completed and most of the hotel reservations made. Should be tons of fun. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Fred and I decided we would host a family memorial day BBQ. We figured our house was big enough that if the weather didn't cooperate we could fit everyone inside. Of course it was cold and rainy! Stefan and Jeremiah ended up in the carport doing the cooking. But it all worked out and it was nice to get everyone together. There was lots of laughter, talking and of course eating. I usually get a little stressed when my house is full but I actually had a good time. It was only after everyone left and the house was blown up that I stressed.

I feel that is it is very important to have family traditions and memorial day is one of those traditions. It is a day for reflection, remembering those who gave up their lives for our freedom and those who have passed on, and being with your family.

We also celebrated my sister Kris' birthday. She's the one with her back to the camera (white shirt, black hair and holding her grandbaby Phillip). I hope she had a happy birthday!

I had an interesting experience yesterday while shopping at Mervyns. I met Morgan and the kids at the mall because we wanted to get out of the house and walk around. We stopped and got a bite to eat and a drink and our last stop was Mervyns. They were having a huge sale and I wanted to look at dress shoes. Morgan had to pick up Ryan so she left and I stayed to look around more. I was sitting on the floor trying on shoes when a woman approached me and asked me if I would like her gift card. She seemed a bit out of sorts and a little harried. I was kind of taken aback but said "sure!" She was with her two boys and they were on their way to baseball practice and running late. The card was about to expire and she wanted someone to use it so it wouldn't go to waste. What a nice, generous thing for her to do. Of course I couldn't let it go to waste so I got me a new pair of sandals and I walked out of the store smiling . . . .

This has been a great week. Mother's day was a great, fun-filled, busy day. It was so fun to hang out with my kids and grandkids. The sun was out and it was warm. Fred surprised me with some patio chairs. They were actually the ones I have been wanting to buy for a while now. Morgan knows what I like and she went on a double secret mission to buy the chairs. Ellie had been sworn to secrecy and was so excited by the time Sunday afternoon rolled around. I had to close my eyes and Ellie and Max lead me out to the backyard. It was pretty funny and they giggling and so very excited. It was a little bit hard to think about my own mom and the memories came flooding back. My brothers and sister and I cleaned out my mom's storage shed last week and we had a great time. There were so many funny things that she had wanted to keep in storage. My brother Jed made quite a haul. He completely loaded up his trailer! I was able to get my grandmother's dresser. My mom had inherited from her and now I have it. I was also going through a box of "stuff" and found some of the funniest old pictures. I'll have to scan them and post some of them later. Hope the coming week is a good one. . . .

Another week has come and gone. It has now been four weeks since my mom passed away. On Sunday afternoons we usually go visit Fred's dad and then my mom and it seems to strange not to drive to American Fork. I still have the urge now and then to pick up the phone and call. Fred and I are in the process of planning our big road trip and will be going to places that mom and dad visited during their traveling years. Yesterday I thought I should ask mom about one of the places we will be visiting. . . only to realize. . . I'm on my own. Hard to get used to.

I am so glad I have my family and especially my sweet grandbabies. They bring such joy and "piles of smiles" to us. We just can't get enough of them. Love you guys!

The last ten days has been a blur. It's been ten days since my mom passed away. I keep thinking it's all been a dream and that I will wake up any time now. Last night after dinner, I picked up the phone to call and check on my mom only to realize that I can't call her anymore. Even though she had been sick for a few years, and sometimes "not with it," she was always there. Kris and I were talking about how mom was the connection to the rest of our extended family and now that is gone. We are the generation that will now be the ones to keep the connection going. Let's hope we can do it. We are certainly going to try!

My mother, Julia Anderson, passed away Sunday evening (April 6, 2008) at the age of 80 with her family by her side. She had been sick for quite some time and it was a blessing for her to be able to go home to be reunited with my father and her parents. What a blessing to know that we will see them again and that our families can be together forever.
My mom was quite a character and always had something to say about everything. She loved her family. She taught us to stand up for ourselves and do what was right. She taught us well and will definitely be missed. Good-bye for now mom - I love you. . . .

Getting away from it all . . .

Last week Fred and I had the opportunity to get away from it all in sunny southern Utah. We got lucky this year and had warm weather. For quite some time we have wanted to explore an area in Nevada called the Mormon Well Road and Mormon Springs. It is a 40 mile trip on an extremely rough road (4 wheel drive recommended). It is literally in the middle of nowhere! We took enough food, water and warm clothes to sustain us in case we had problems with weather or mechanical problems. But luckily it was warm and the 4-runner performed nicely. There is a lot of history that we don't know about yet in this area and so will be doing some more research. We also took another trip in Nevada to a place called Whitney Pockets and to see some petroglyphs. Beautiful, beautiful country. It was a great time for us and a much needed break from the "rat-race" of life. Some of the pictures from the trip are shown below.

I came across an on-line support group for people with Lupus some years ago as I was searching for information about the disease. I read the posts for a long time before I got brave enough to join in. The group was called "Circle of Friends." There was a ton of information to be had and it was a place where you could ask questions and I actually found out a lot about Lupus that I didn't know. Random Thoughts and a Happy Birthday

Today is my oldest son Nick's birthday. It is hard to believe that he is 30 years old. I'm not sure how time goes so quickly but it seems to be going faster every day. Fred and I were just kids when we had Nick and it was a day I'll never forget. I had no idea what it meant to be a mother let alone take care of a baby. He was such a mellow, happy, easy baby and I'm sure it was by divine design that he came that way. He was my little buddy. I took him everywhere with me. Fred was in school and working crazy shifts so Nick and I had a lot of time to spend together. Our favorite thing to do was go for banana shakes at Rocky Mtn. Drive Inn and then go for a ride and listen to the stereo. Nick has grown into a fine man and a wonderful father. It makes me proud to see him take care of his wife and two sons. I guess we did something right all those years ago! We love you Nick. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Boy this week started off with a bang. I was driving home from the library and thought I'd stop by Morgan's to see if anyone was out enjoying the sun. Just as I was about to turn the corner by Nick and Hillary's house a very large rock came flying into my new van. It couldn't just hit the windshield, no it had to hit the door frame as well. The paint on the frame is chipped off and the frame is bent. So it is now at the body shop being fixed and we are juggling cars again. I know is just a car and it can be fixed, but it's the hassle factor and all the time and running around necessary to get things done. Okay, enough feeling sorry for myself. I took some pictures but they don't really show the damage very well.

I am the proud owner of a Toyota Sienna van. Yes folks, I said van. Twenty years ago, heck even five years ago, I would not have been caught dead in one. I've come to realize that comfort and functionality are a very important part of a vehicle. We said good-bye to the scubie late Friday night, drove to Neils for fish and chips and home. I think I can officially take all five grandkids for a ride now (not that I would be crazy to do that by myself) and I'm sure Morgan would come along for the ride!! Hopefully my friend Jana will not disown me now! I will have pictures hopefully today or tomorrow so stay tuned. . .

It's been another crazy week. And just when I thought things were looking up! We got our taxes done and actually got a refund. Too bad it didn't last long. My car repairs cost just about exactly the tax refund amount. I guess you could call that a blessing, right? And now this morning, the car is back at the repair shop. Seems that the oil leak is back and if they cannot fix it, we are looking at a new engine. So we are at the crossroads - what to do; fix and keep - fix and get rid of. . . . that is the question. Anyone want a nice car with low miles and a brand new engine??? It's such a fun, good in the snow, cute car. I've had a lot of fun driving it over the last few years. I thought maybe I would give it to Morgan and Ryan but I'd hate for them to have problems with it!

But hey, the sun is shining today. I was out of bed before 8:00 a.m. and things are looking up! I have lots of things to be thankful for so today I'm counting my blessings and not my crosses. How's that for positive?

We've been laying low at our house this week. Seems everyone has the dreaded sickness. I'm not sure what to call it, but it hasn't been fun. I still have something going on and now Fred seems to be starting over with the cough and ear problems. Thankfully, Jonas and Oliver are over their RSV and Maxwell is feeling better after being on antibiotics for strep. Maybe, just maybe when warmer weather comes, we'll all feel better. Nothing like warm weather and sunshine to make you feel good.

My hand therapy is going well. It looks like I need to get another coloring book! Fred told me yesterday (as I was coloring) that maybe I should think about volunteering at an elementary school! Real funny Fred. . . Well, maybe I should think about it. I have always wanted to do volunteer work but I'm not sure an elementary school is the place. I think I would rather volunteer at the hospital, perhaps in the nursery rocking babies or maybe the gift shop?? What do you think?

I've started a new hobby. . . coloring. Yes with crayola crayons and a real coloring book! It's actually very therapeutic and is part of my hand therapy. I've discovered it works really well as a stress reliever too.

I also made some progress in organizing my pictures (to be placed and labeled in an album sometime) - I've moved them around into more piles! I just need to go on one of those HGTV shows where they organize you. Wouldn't that be fun?

Yeah! Fred finished is English class just in time to start another class. It may never end.

Hard to believe that January is gone and February is well on it's way. It has been a busy week. Fred's final paper is almost done - just a few more tweaks. Then it's on to the next class.
I still haven't gotten into the swing of scrapbooking or even putting my pictures in place. I have made a few cards, however! I don't know what's wrong with me. It must be this cold weather. Cabin fever is setting in. Shopping doesn't even sound fun. I think it must be time for Fred and I to get in the runner and head south!
Well, we've had the new bed now for a few weeks and we both think it is well worth it. Fred for sure is sleeping better. I am sleeping better when I actually sleep. I somehow need to figure out how to get to sleep and stay asleep. Any thoughts?

Well we are more than half-way through January. I'm hoping life slows down a bit this week. One more paper and Fred will be through with his class just in time to start more!

We are still enjoying the new bed. I am starting to get used to it and I think I'm actually sleeping better. Time will tell.

Yeah! I finally got my splints off my thumb and finger. Needless to say, they are both pretty stiff and not working quite right. I am in physical therapy for a few weeks to see if I can get all the motion back. You should see what they have come up with for hand therapy. Pretty cool. . . I actually stumbled my way through a song on the piano and I can now hit the space bar with my thumb (I know, it sounds corny but you try living without a right thumb!)

Now maybe I will have to actually work on my goal of scrapbooking and getting my photos in order. I'm hoping Morgan will help get me motivated in between all that she has going on in her life.

Another week has come and gone. Where does the time go. . .
After many hours of researching, testing, complaining about a bad sleep, and thinking about it, we finally took the plunge and bought a new bed. It is quite an investment if you get a decent bed. Think about it. You spend one-third of your 24 hour day in bed! We finally settled on a Therapedic brand (memory foam). The verdict is still out but I think we are sleeping better. And, Morgan finally got her king size bed (our former bed). And now she is actually sleeping better as well! Does anyone out there have a similar type bed. I'd love to hear from you.
